AS media magazine cover analysis

The title of the magazine is Mojo. This magazine targets the audience who love classic rock music and also between the ages of 25-45. The title of the magazine is in white colour as white is a sign of peace. The title is placed at the top so that it can be easily seen by the audience when placed on the shelf. The title Mojo means magic charm. The fonts used on the front cover are very simple as it will be easier for the target audience to read.  The slogan of the magazine is ‘The music magazine’.

The buzz word is free CD which is at the top and is eye catching for the customers.

The bar at the top says Dylan blasts back! And his picture at the top right which gives a clue that there is going to be news about Dylan inside the magazine.

The image on the front cover is a mid shot of singer Syd Barrett who is looking straight on the audience. There is only a single person on the central image. The image is in black and white colour. His face expression shows that he is a person who is calm but not that friendly. The lighting is really dark and is mainly focused on the face. The costumes he used is casual and his hair looks messy.

The anchorage text tells the audience that this is the picture of Syd Barrett who is one of the members of Pink Floyd which earned recognition for their psychedelic and space rock music, and, as they evolved, for their progressive rock music. There are also the dates given which shows that he was born in 1946 and died in 2006.

The different puffs give the audience an idea about different singers whose news is going to be inside the magazine. Under the title ‘Farewell you crazy diamond’, they have given different rock/pop singers and bands who are talking about Syd and his death.

They offer a free CD with the magazine and are placed at the left bottom of the front cover to make the audience notice the freebie easily when they are kept in the shelves in the shops. People are more likely to buy a magazine when they will get some freebies with it, which will make them think that it is a bargain and will decide to buy that product.

The Mojo magazine used three main colours. They are white, black and red.The black colour is the main colour which shows the sadness about the death of Syd Barrett.  The price of the magazine is given at the bottom of the front cover which helps the audience to check the price before they go to the counter to pay for it
